# Q6 Series and Parallel DC Circuits

# Find V1 in the circuit showin in Fig 6.

First observe that no current flows in the single wire connecting the two halves of this circuit as is evident from enclosing either half in a closed surface.

From KVL applied to the left-hand half of the circuit, 24 = 16I1 + 2V1.

And for the right-hand half of the circuit, Ohm’s law gives V1 = 4 * – 0.5I1.

As the current flows in the both circuits are not associated, the current flow in the right-hand has a negative sign.

Solving the two equations produces V1 = -4[V]
